Make sure your logs are ready for burning

Kiln dry hardwood logs are the best logs for your stove as they produce less tar and have a much lower moisture content than seasoned or newly cut logs. At Home Fires and Fuels, we spot test all of our deliveries (moisture testing) to make sure our logs are exceptionally dry.

For burning, we recommend logs are under 20% moisture and ours are usually well under this. To be sure of low moisture content, dry logs, we recommend that customers buy a moisture meter. Low moisture = dry logs = less tar and deposits in your chimney and liner and the environment and a longer life for your appliance.
